The 2013 Lancer’s base four-cylinder engine delivers enough power for everyday use, reviewers said. However, many preferred Lancer SE and GT models for their extra power, while Lancer Ralliart and Evolution models earned praise for their responsive turbocharged four-cylinder engines. The base Lancer comes with front-wheel drive and a five-speed manual transmission. An automatic transmission (CVT) is available, though a few critics wrote that it is noisy and saps power. Lancer SE, Ralliart and Evolution models come standard with all-wheel drive. The 2013 Lancer gets up to an EPA-estimated 26/34 mpg city/highway, which is typical for an affordable small car. Lancer GT, Ralliart and Evolution models earned praise for their agility and impressive body control, and test drivers noted that lower trims also offer handling that’s fairly composed. However, some disliked the vague steering found on lower trims, while others noted that the high-performance Lancer Evolution has a ride that’s particularly rough.
