A six-speed manual transmission is standard, but it has rough gear changes and a gearshift that feels cheaply made. A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) is available in the base trim and standard with higher trim levels. CVT-equipped models achieve the best fuel economy of the Sentra lineup, at 30 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. The Sentra has a firm ride, but it has no problem soaking up most road imperfections. Its handling ability lacks excitement compared to others in the class.
